Job Description

Who you are

  • To thrive in this role, you must be a pioneer with an inventor's spirit—someone with a strong command of language (both inputs and outputs) who is passionate about technology and innovation
  • You can work at pace, handle several projects, and quickly interpret brand and customer requirements to translate them into appropriate voice and tone
  • You know how to present ideas professionally through a strategic and creative lens
  • You must be comfortable working with project briefs and managing stakeholder inputs, functional requirements, and timelines
  • You have a solid understanding of conversation design fundamentals combined with a deep understanding of how to collaborate with UX designers, researchers, product management, engineering, data science, and operational teams as you go from early-stage product concepts to launches of new features and experiences
  • Have an available online portfolio
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), User Experience Design, Linguistics, Psychology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience demonstrated through a strong portfolio
  • 8+ years of experience in conversation design or VUI design
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Unwavering attention to detail and an acute awareness of why it matters
  • Experience designing for LLM-enabled customer experiences
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Amazon is an equal opportunities employer. We believe passionately that employing a diverse workforce is central to our success. We make recruiting decisions based on your experience and skills. We value your passion to discover, invent, simplify and build

What the job involves

  • The Alexa for Shopping design team is seeking a Senior Conversation Experience Designer to help us invent features for Amazon’s personalised, agentic AI assistant
  • Our new experience brings together the best of Rufus and Alexa+ to deliver a more personal, helpful shopping experience across a wide range of surfaces and devices—from the Amazon Shopping app and website to Echo Show, where customers can now browse and shop the full Amazon store using voice, touch, or both
  • Develop high-level customer experience strategy for both the near and long term
  • Design conversational frameworks and conversational flows, partnering with UX Designers on accompanying GUI components
  • Work with Science and Editorial teams to help train the LLM to generate content that matches the intention of the designs
  • Present design work to the user experience team, product team, engineering team, leaders, and partner organisations for review and feedback
  • Collaborate with other design team members on experiences, frameworks, processes, and best practices
  • Work with our UX research and data analysis teams to assess and optimise new and existing features
  • Navigate ambiguity—including shifts in direction and rapidly evolving customer expectations—and bring clarity to design decision-making through your work
