Job description

Bloomberg’s Legal, Compliance & Risk Department plays a critical role in supporting our businesses and operations around the world. We move quickly and thoughtfully to help address a variety of complex legal, regulatory, and compliance issues that arise across the Company’s various businesses. Our team is made up of talented and hardworking professionals who think creatively and work collaboratively in an open environment to deliver results, drive innovation, and solve difficult problems. We also recognize the value of diversity and inclusion in cultivating a supportive workplace and the importance of giving back to our communities as evidenced by our award-winning pro bono program.

Bloomberg’s Risk & Compliance Technology team builds the technology that determines how clients are onboarded, screened, and granted access to Bloomberg products — protecting our regulatory standing while enabling the commercial business.

The Role

We are seeking a Product Manager, on a contract basis, to own discovery and outcomes for Bloomberg’s client KYC and screening capabilities, based in our London office.

The focus is deliberately narrow: how clients are identified and verified, how they are screened against sanctions and watch lists, and how the resulting alerts are reviewed and cleared. The challenge is to make those controls more accurate and less manual — fewer false positives, faster clearance, better decisions — while keeping Bloomberg’s regulatory position fully defensible.

You will join a cross-functional product team with direct access to the Compliance analysts who use these tools every day. Much of the work starts with the data: understanding how client and screening data is structured, where it is incomplete or unstructured, and what has to be true before a change can be built. You will set priorities jointly with the engineering lead, use data and AI tools to test ideas before committing engineering time, and make trade-offs on evidence rather than waiting for broad consensus.

This is an individual contributor role. The engineering lead owns architecture, feasibility, and delivery; you own problem framing, discovery, and whether what ships actually improves outcomes — with engineers expected to help shape solutions, not just implement them.

We’ll Trust You To:

  • Spend time with Compliance analysts and reviewers to understand how KYC checks and screening alerts are actually worked, and where time and accuracy are lost
  • Map the client, KYC, and screening data — its structure, quality, and gaps — and make data readiness an explicit input to what the team builds next
  • Turn that understanding into a small number of clear problems and measurable outcomes, including what the team will not pursue
  • Partner with the engineering lead from problem framing through discovery, delivery, and measurement
  • Use prototypes, product data, and AI-assisted methods to test ideas — such as matching logic, alert prioritization, or analyst tooling — before committing significant engineering time
  • Earn trust with Compliance by involving them early and resolving tension with evidence, not by turning requests into a backlog
  • Be accountable for outcomes: fewer false positives and less avoidable manual review, faster and more accurate alert clearance, and faster client onboarding — without weakening regulatory defensibility

You’ll Need To Have:

  • Experience owning a technology-powered product or product area — discovering solutions and being accountable for outcomes, not only roadmap delivery
  • Experience with product discovery, including rapid prototyping, testing assumptions before building, and measuring whether released changes achieved their intended outcome
  • Strong hands-on data skills — comfortable querying, mapping, and analyzing data yourself to size a problem, choose what to test, and confirm what moved
  • A track record of close, peer-level partnership with engineering
  • Ability to frame and solve problems under regulatory, operational, and technical constraints without a fully scoped brief
  • Ability to earn trust and drive decisions with Compliance stakeholders through data, logic, and clear communication
  • Practical fluency with AI tools for discovery and prototyping, paired with sound judgment about reliability
  • Ability to get productive quickly in a rules-heavy domain and contribute within the first weeks of the engagement

We’d love to see:

  • Experience with KYC, CDD, sanctions or name screening, or transaction monitoring in financial services or another regulated domain
  • Familiarity with screening and KYC vendors, name-matching logic, or false-positive tuning
  • Experience building products for internal compliance or operations users

If indicated, please note that years of experience are a guide; we will consider applications from all candidates who can demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
