Principal Data Center Operations Process Engineer
Oracle Data Center Operations
Help shape how Oracle’s data center teams work, solve problems, and scale.
Oracle Data Center Operations (DCO) is seeking a Principal Data Center Operations Process Engineer to turn complex technical knowledge into clear procedures, improve operational workflows, and establish standards that teams can use consistently across regions.
This role combines deep data center expertise with strong technical writing and process engineering skills. You will work closely with technicians, engineers, program managers, and subject matter experts to capture knowledge, address operational gaps, and build repeatable processes that improve reliability, reduce risk, and support growth.
Alongside this work, you will bring practical technical expertise to complex escalations, incident response, and data center builds and expansions. Your impact will extend beyond resolving
individual issues: you will help teams apply what they learn and prevent problems from recurring.
What you’ll do
Design and improve operational processes
- Analyze workflows, support models, and incident trends to identify opportunities for simplification, standardization, automation, and risk reduction.
- Design and implement processes that improve operational readiness, efficiency, and consistency across data centers.
- Define success measures, track outcomes, and refine processes using operational data and stakeholder feedback.
- Drive adoption through training, stakeholder engagement, and operational change management.
Create documentation that enables teams to execute
- Write and maintain operational procedures, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, knowledge articles, and engineering standards.
- Translate complex technical concepts and hands-on activities into clear, accurate instructions for global audiences.
- Partner with technical teams to capture institutional knowledge and make it accessible and maintainable.
- Establish documentation standards, ownership, and review practices.
- Incorporate lessons from incidents, root cause analyses, infrastructure deployments, and operational changes into procedures and guidance.
Support reliable operations and growth
- Provide technical expertise for complex escalations, incident response, and lasting corrective actions.
- Support new region builds and data center expansions, remotely and onsite, with a focus on safety, quality, and operational readiness.
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams on timelines, dependencies, capacity requirements, and handover into operations.
- Guide rack deployments, equipment installations and upgrades, physical network changes, repairs, inventory, and logistics.
- Support preventative maintenance and improvements to power, cooling, airflow, and containment.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in data center operations, infrastructure engineering, or technical support, with the judgment to diagnose complex issues and deliver durable solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, actionable technical documentation, including operational procedures, runbooks, knowledge articles, and engineering standards.
- Experience analyzing, designing, implementing, and improving processes in a technical environment.
- Strong analytical, communication, and project coordination skills, with the ability to lead improvements across teams and regions.
- Hands-on knowledge of enterprise servers, storage, and networking technologies, including Linux or Unix administration.
- Working knowledge of data center power, cooling, structured cabling, and connectivity, plus an understanding of network architecture and common protocols.
- Knowledge of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and cloud computing concepts.
- Experience supporting enterprise customers and translating operational needs into better customer outcomes.
- A self-directed approach, strong attention to detail, and the ability to turn ambiguous problems into practical improvements.
Preferred experience
- Developing documentation programs, knowledge management systems, or documentation governance frameworks.
- Applying Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods.
- Leading cross-functional improvement initiatives in data center, cloud, infrastructure, or technology operations.
- Applying IT service management practices; ITIL experience is an advantage.
- Relevant data center or cloud industry certifications.
Education and experience
The preferred experience profile is one of the following:
- 11 years of relevant experience; or
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field, plus 7 years of relevant experience; or
- A master’s degree in a related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience; or
- A doctorate in a related field, plus 3 years of relevant experience.
Relevant experience includes IT infrastructure support, server administration, and data center operations, design, or layout.
The opportunity
Bring your technical expertise to a role where better processes and clearer documentation have a direct operational impact. You will help Oracle’s global data center teams work more consistently, build shared knowledge, and deliver reliable outcomes as the business grows.
