Job Description
About Bolt Bolt is shaping a future where cities are built for people, not cars. What started as an ambitious project of a 19-year-old in 2013 has grown into a global mobility platform used by more than 200 million customers and 4.5 million driver and courier partners across 50 countries.
From ride-hailing and food delivery to scooters, e-bikes, and car-sharing, Bolt helps people move through cities every day. Small, autonomous teams drive this work, combining the speed and ownership of a startup with the scale of a global technology company backed by more than €1bn in funding.
And we're just getting started.
Why join Bolt?
- Build the future of mobility and help transform how people live and move in cities.
- Tackle challenges at scale that span technology, operations, regulation, and growth.
- Take real ownership early. Small, lean teams mean your decisions matter from day one, and you'll learn fast alongside some of the best people in the industry.
- Join one of Europe's leading technology companies, backed by world-class investors including Sequoia.
About The Role Insurance at Bolt isn't a back-office function. Across 50+ markets, 200M+ customers, and multiple verticals, it's a real lever on cost, risk, and product. We're looking for a Head of Insurance to own our group insurance demand end to end: building the strategy, running the placement cycle, and turning insurance into a commercial enabler across ride-hailing, delivery, micromobility, and financial services.
You'll own all group insurance demand for Bolt, with a mandate to build and run, not coordinate. You'll design our insurance strategy, lead the placement cycle, evaluate captive structures, and embed insurance into the products our drivers, couriers, and business customers actually use.
You'll report into the Director of Procurement and serve as the senior voice on insurance for our C-suite, General Counsel, and Vertical leadership, including chairing the insurance seat on our risk committee. You'll partner closely with Vertical GMs, Product, Legal, and Finance across a genuinely global remit.
Main Tasks And Responsibilities
- Own and refresh the group insurance strategy across motor/fleet, platform liability, cyber, D&O, property, cargo, and scheme/affinity products.
- Lead the annual placement cycle with brokers, driving competitive tension, consolidating where it helps, and optimising terms and premium efficiency.
- Build in-house capability and data infrastructure (exposure, claims, loss triangulation) to reduce reliance on external advisors, and develop the business case for captive structures or alternative risk financing where appropriate.
- Partner with Vertical GMs and Product to turn insurance into a commercial enabler, including scheme products, B2B offerings, and regulatory coverage that supports product launches.
- Ensure compliance across 50+ markets, with particular rigour across EU, UK, and Sub-Saharan Africa, and keep Bolt aligned with DORA and EBA outsourcing obligations.
- Serve as the senior voice on insurance for the C-suite, General Counsel, and Vertical leadership, and chair the insurance seat on the risk committee.
About You
- Proven track record leading an insurance function in a global, multi-market business, ideally in platform, fintech, or high-growth tech.
- Deep technical command across motor/fleet, platform liability, cyber, D&O, and scheme/affinity insurance.
- Strong experience owning large, complex placements, including broker management, underwriter negotiation, and programme restructuring.
- Commercial fluency: able to build the P&L case for an insurance decision, not just the coverage case.
- Regulatory literacy across EU/UK and emerging-market insurance frameworks, with the presence to advise the C-suite directly without routing every decision through external counsel.
- Experience with captive or fronting structures, DORA/EBA outsourcing rules in a regulated financial services context, or hands-on transformation of an insurance or risk function are a plus.
Why You’ll Love It Here
- Accelerate your professional growth with unique career opportunities.
- Enjoy a rewarding salary and stock options, knowing that as Bolt succeeds, so do you.
- Take care of your physical and mental health with our wellness perks.
- Celebrate 5 years at Bolt with a 1-month paid sabbatical to recharge.
- Connect with colleagues at annual company events and smaller team gatherings.
- Balance flexibility and in-person collaboration with our hybrid model, including at least 12 monthly in-office days.
Some perks may differ depending on your location and role. At Bolt, using AI daily is a baseline expectation for everyone. If there’s a faster, smarter way to do your work, we expect you to find it. You’re still responsible for the output, so the standard stays high when using AI tools.
Experience is great, but what we really look for is drive, intelligence, and integrity. So even if you don’t tick every box, please consider applying!
Everyone is welcome Bolt is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where all qualified applicants are considered for employment without regard to race, colour, nationality, religion, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are happy to make reasonable accommodations throughout our hiring process. If you require any adjustments, please let us know.
