Job description

Klarna, briefly
At Klarna, we're building an everyday finance network, helping over 120 million consumers across 26 countries save time and money, and worry less about their finances.Working at Klarna means taking on problems most companies never get to solve, and being hands-on enough that the interesting part of the work lands with you, not someone else. You'll build with AI, not watch it happen.

This is the stretch zone. Come find out what you're capable of.

About The Role
Klarna’s growth in France runs through credit decisions: who we say yes to, on what terms, and how we keep both our customers and our portfolio healthy.
As Consumer Credit Underwriting Manager for France, you’ll own that.
You’ll set the direction for how Klarna underwrites French consumers using open banking data: income and expense patterns, account turnover and account behaviour over time, used as primary signals, not add-ons.

This is a role with real ownership and visibility. You’ll be our underwriting expert for France, working hand in hand with Risk, Product, Legal, Pricing and Engineering as we take regulated, longer-term credit further in the market. The decisions you shape reach every consumer who applies with Klarna in France.

What You'll Do

  • You’ll own consumer underwriting for France: the policy, the strategy and the models behind it.
  • You’ll turn open banking signals into automated underwriting policies that grow approvals without growing losses.
  • You’ll make and defend the trade-off between growth, consumer fairness and portfolio performance.
  • You’ll work with Risk, Product, Legal, Pricing and Engineering to launch and evolve credit products in France and keep underwriting aligned with regulation.
  • You’ll use AI tooling to explore data and test improvement ideas.
  • You’ll present performance and recommendations to senior stakeholders, and turn what the data shows into changes the business actually implements.

Who you are

  • You have 5+ years in consumer credit underwriting or credit risk strategy at a bank, consumer finance lender or BNPL provider. A banking or lending background is essential.
  • You’ve owned underwriting decisions end to end, from policy rules, scorecards or strategies through to monitoring.
  • You’ve used bank account or transaction data (income and expense detection, account turnover, behavioural signals) in real credit decisions. Experience in the French market is essential.
  • You have a degree in Finance, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics or a related quantitative field.
  • You’re comfortable in SQL and with large datasets, and quick to pick up AI tooling.
  • You can explain complex data to senior, non-specialist audiences and bring people with you.
  • You’ve led or mentored analysts, or you’re clearly ready to start.

Things you should know before applying

  • Working together: we value co-located teams; most teams currently meet in the office 2–3 days per week, and this varies by team and can change over time.
  • Non-obvious backgrounds are welcome. Diversity of skills, perspectives and backgrounds is how we create, innovate, and disrupt like no other.
  • Final compensation will be based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
  • Depending on your background, this could land as an Analyst role or a Data Scientist role — we'll settle the exact title with you once we understand your experience.

Please include a CV in English.
