Job Description
In most instances, this position requires in-person interviews as part of the hiring process. Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development.
- 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
- 5 years of experience in computer vision and machine learning, with specialized focus in one or more of the below areas: 3D computer vision, multimodal learning, and scene/object understanding.
- Experience in an industry or advanced research setting acting as a technical lead or equivalent, driving the complete research-to-product pipeline.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience designing and prototyping augmented or virtual reality products.

The Semantic Perception team, part of Google XR, develops innovative core tech around computer vision and machine learning, in particular scene and object understanding, 3D computer vision, multimodal learning. The activity spans the whole range from research to product. The team is composed of Research Scientists and Software Engineers experts in the field. The team serves multiple perception-related products at Google, with a particular focus on XR products and applications.

lightweight XR devices like smart glasses and headsets pair with helpful AI to augment human intelligence, offering personalized, conversational, and contextually aware experiences.
Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and deliver computer vision and machine learning technologies for augmented and mixed reality platforms.
- Act as a subject matter expert in taking Computer Vision/Machine Learning (CV/ML) models from research prototypes to production, focusing on mobile framework integration, edge optimization, and runtime robustness.
- Serve as tech lead across critical XR feature tracks, guiding multidisciplinary teams of software engineers and research scientists from scoping through release.
- Partner effectively with product, UX, and program management, while maintaining proactive alignment with executive leadership and key stakeholders across the engineering organization.
