We’re hiring a Staff Product Manager to own the systems that turn Deel’s money movement into a general ledger that auditors trust. That covers the accounting event model, the journal entry engine, the sync into our ERP, reconciliation, and the controls around all of it. This work is a big part of what gets Deel ready for an IPO. It isn’t glamorous, and almost nobody outside Finance will ever see it. If it breaks, though, everyone notices.
The problem, plainly We process millions of transactions across 120+ countries and thousands of bank accounts. Most of them book correctly. The ones that don’t end up as manual work for Accounting at month end. Some events book in the wrong period. Some don’t get reversed when something upstream is cancelled. Bank data shows up late or incomplete. Clearing accounts pile up balances nobody can explain. Most fixes so far have been one-offs. We need someone who fixes the root cause so the whole category of problem stops coming back.
What you’ll own
- The accounting event model. For every product event: does it create a journal entry, when, for how much, and against which accounts? You’ll work this out with Finance for revenue, deferred revenue, FX, fees, and liabilities.
- The close. Get it to 7 days. Find out where the days actually go, then take them out by automating reconciliations, fixing data at the source, and getting rid of manual adjustments.
- Platform to ERP. Journal entries that leave our platform should arrive in the ERP complete, on time, and matching. Every period.
- Reconciliation and subledger integrity. That means bank-to-book, clearing accounts, and intercompany. When something doesn’t match, you’re the one in the data working out why.
- Controls. Build SOX controls into the product so audit evidence comes out of normal operations, with no scramble before every audit.
- The roadmap and the tradeoffs. You’ll work across Accounting, Controllership, Revenue, Treasury, and Engineering, plus the product teams whose transactions you book (Payments, Invoicing, Pricing).
What a good first six months looks like
- You can take any product event and explain which journal entries it produces and why.
- You’ve mapped the close day by day and know which five problems cost the most days.
- You’ve shipped fixes for at least two of them, and the close is measurably shorter.
- Accounting brings you problems early, because you fixed the last ones they brought you.
- You understand the power of AI and can harness it to reduce all the traditionally done manual work in this role
Who you are
- You have 7+ years in product, with a real share of it on ledger, accounting, billing, or ERP systems. That could be at a fintech, a payments company, a marketplace, or on the finance systems team of a fast-growing company.
- You know debits and credits cold. You can read a trial balance, follow an entry from the event that created it into the ERP, and hold your own with a Controller on revenue recognition or whether something should be accrued or deferred. A CPA, ACCA, or Big 4 background helps, but it isn’t required.
- A proven operator mindset - comfortable getting into the weeds of complex, fragile systems while driving execution at pace.
- You write specs that engineers can build from and accountants can sign off on.
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous, high-pressure environments - balancing urgent delivery with long-term system transformation.
- You’ve been through at least one hard close, audit, or ERP migration from the inside.
Nice to have
- Multi-entity, multi-currency, and intercompany accounting
- SOX implementation or IPO readiness work
- Experience with NetSuite or a dedicated subledger tool
Why this role
- The ledger sits under everything else. Revenue, cash, and audit all depend on it, and you’ll own it.
- Your success metric is concrete: days to close. You’ll see it move.
- The scale is real: 120+ countries, many currencies, thousands of bank accounts, and a company preparing to go public.
- You’ll work directly with Fintech product leadership and Deel’s finance leadership, and you’ll have room to decide how this gets built.
