Software Engineer III, WAN Core, Google Cloud

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience with software development or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree in an industry setting.
• 2 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.
• Experience programming in C++.

Preferred qualifications:

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
• 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience optimizing software system performance.
• Experience debugging complex, distributed software systems.
• Experience or interest in networking technologies/concepts such as Software Defined Networking (SDN).
• Understanding of Internet routing technologies and router/switch telemetry.

The WAN Core team is responsible for Google's B4 network, a unique and rapidly expanding global private SDN backbone. As the largest private WAN, B4 interconnects Google's datacenters and campuses, supporting the vast majority of our inter-datacenter traffic. Our mission includes evolving B4 into AlphaNet, combining B2 and B4 to deliver the foundational networking for all of Google's technical infrastructure. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Ireland: €100000 - €102000 (EUR) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

• Analyze production data to find gaps/error patterns/opportunities for existing system.
• Design, develop, integrate and test the features for B4 availability, scaling, NPIs.
• Debug in highly integrated B4 ecosystem including traffic engineering and admission control.
• Prioritize work and ensure that incremental progress is made even if the problems at hand are difficult to solve in a short period of time.
• Help team members and partner teams understand the broader context, and solve the right problems at the right time.
