Are you passionate about solving complex engineering challenges that blend machine learning, distributed systems, and regulatory compliance? We're looking for a Software Development Engineer to help build classification systems that automatically identify product compliance requirements, explain decisions to sellers, and streamline the marketplace experience.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable distributed systems using AWS, Java, and Python
• Build and optimize classification pipelines that process millions of product classifications
• Implement features that help sellers understand compliance decisions and take actionable steps
• Collaborate with science teams to productionize machine learning models including graph neural networks and large language models
• Develop APIs and integrations that connect classification systems with seller-facing tools and compliance workflows

A day in the life

You might start your day reviewing system metrics, then work on improving APIs or building new features for compliance tools. You'll collaborate with applied scientists on machine learning integration, work with product managers on requirements, and partner with compliance teams on system design.

Your work contributes to more efficient operations and better seller experiences through improved automation and clearer guidance.

About The Team The classification engineering team is part of Amazon's Compliance & Safety Services organization, where we build systems that ensure product safety and regulatory compliance across Amazon's global marketplace.

We're responsible for multiple high-impact projects that collectively process large volumes of products. Our systems help Amazon meet regulatory obligations while reducing friction for sellers. The team culture emphasizes technical excellence, collaborative problem-solving, and continuous learning from both senior and mid-level engineers.

You'll be part of building systems that help streamline compliance processes, working at the intersection of AI, regulatory technology, and large-scale distributed systems. Our mission is to make compliance more transparent, automated, and seller-friendly while maintaining high standards of safety and trust.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• Experience with Machine Learning and Large Language Model fundamentals, including architecture, training/inference lifecycles, and optimization of model execution
