Senior Government Relations Manager, UK

Responsibilities About the Team

The Government Relations and Public Policy team covers government affairs and government relations, policy and issue-area expertise, risk and crisis management, stakeholder engagement, coalitions, and partnerships. The team’s mission is to prevent, manage, and mitigate political, legislative, and regulatory threats to TikTok, and to promote a policy environment that supports growth and innovation for the business.

We are looking for a policy-led public affairs professional to join our UK team. This role will focus on strategically important policy areas including privacy, data protection, national security, cyber security, and economic harms, while also maintaining the political networks needed to advance TikTok’s positions with credibility across Westminster, Whitehall, and the wider UK stakeholder landscape.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

• Lead policy monitoring, analysis, and engagement across priority UK issues including topics such as privacy, data protection, national security, cyber security, illicit activity, copyright infringement, and broader platform integrity topics.

• Develop clear, evidence-based policy positions, briefings, consultation inputs, and engagement materials that explain TikTok’s approach to sensitive and technically complex issues.

• Track UK legislative, regulatory, and political developments relevant to the role’s policy portfolio, identifying risks, opportunities, and recommended actions for the business.

• Work closely with Legal, Security, Trust & Safety, Product, Comms, and regional policy teams to ensure UK public policy positions are accurate, consistent, and operationally grounded.

• Build and maintain first class relationships with relevant policymakers, officials, regulators, expert bodies, think tanks, trade associations, and civil society stakeholders.

• Use a well-established political network to support TikTok’s engagement with parliamentarians, advisers, officials, and other influential stakeholders, particularly where policy issues have high political salience.

• Represent TikTok externally in meetings, roundtables, industry forums, and stakeholder discussions, with a focus on explaining the company’s policy positions and building trust in its approach.

• Support engagement with relevant institutions and expert communities connected to data protection, security, platform integrity, intellectual property, and related digital policy debates.

• Identify reputational, legislative, and regulatory risks early, and contribute to coordinated response strategies where issues have political, media, or public impact.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

• Significant experience in public policy, government relations, regulatory affairs, public affairs, or a related field.

• Strong understanding of UK policy-making, legislative, and regulatory processes, with the ability to assess how policy developments affect a technology platform.

• Demonstrated experience working on complex policy issues, ideally including privacy, data protection, cyber security, national security, intellectual property, online harms, platform governance, or related digital policy areas.

• Ability to translate complex technical, legal, or operational issues into clear policy arguments and stakeholder-facing materials.

• Experience engaging credibly with policymakers, officials, regulators, industry bodies, or expert stakeholders on sensitive or high-profile issues.

• A strong political instinct and an established and relevant UK political network.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience producing high-quality briefings, consultation responses, talking points, and internal advice.

• Sound judgement, discretion, and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in Parliament, government, a regulator, public affairs consultancy, trade association, technology company, or a comparable policy-facing organization.

• Familiarity with the UK data protection, cyber security, national security, economic crime, consumer protection, intellectual property, or digital regulation landscape.

• Experience managing policy issues where political, legal, operational, reputational, and media considerations intersect.

• First class existing relationships across relevant Westminster, Whitehall, regulator, think tank, industry, or expert stakeholder networks.

• Experience working with cross-functional teams to align external policy engagement with business operations and risk management.
