Job description
What to Expect
Tesla is accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, and we're seeking a seasoned senior commodity leader to own EMEA sourcing and supplier strategy for Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) and Milkrun outbound logistics. As Sr. GSM, you will set the multi-year category vision, lead the largest and most complex bid events in the region, and act as the executive-facing commodity owner for Tesla's EMEA service network. You will mentor junior buyers and analysts, influence senior stakeholders across Manufacturing, Finance, and Logistics Operations, and shape the outbound transportation backbone of the world's leading EV manufacturer. This is a high-ownership, high-visibility role for a proven leader who can operate independently from strategy through execution.
What You'll Do
- Category Leadership - LTL & milkrun: Define and execute the multi-year EMEA category strategy for LTL and milkrun. Own should-cost models, supplier segmentation, network design principles, and consolidation roadmaps across Tesla's EMEA operations. Present strategy and results to Director and VP-level stakeholders.
- Milkrun Network Design & Execution: Lead cross-functional design and optimization of multi-stop milkrun routes serving service network’s GDC’s and RDC’s. Set the carrier qualification standard and onboarding playbook for the region.
- Complex LTL Sourcing & Bid Management: Run the region's largest RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs spanning entire EMEA, and cross-border LTL programs. Build rate matrices, evaluate base-rate, FAK, accessorials, and fuel mechanisms, and award lanes based on total landed cost and service performance.
- Cross-Border Execution: Own deep knowledge of CMR, cabotage and ADR requirements.
- Contracting & Commercial Terms: Lead negotiation and execution of NDAs, SOPs, Master Service Agreements, and rate schedules. Own contract escalation paths and partner with Legal on complex commercial terms.
- Cost Optimization & Risk Mitigation: Deliver multi-million-dollar annual savings through bid rotations, mode conversions (LTL <-> milkrun <-> pool consolidation), trailer-fill improvements, and reduction of expedited freight. Build resilient supply base through multi-sourcing, capacity commitments, and contingency routing.
- Supplier Performance Management: Set the KPI framework (OTP, OTD, OTIF, claims ratio, billing accuracy, tender acceptance) and lead executive business reviews with strategic carriers. Own escalations, disputes, and corrective action plans.
- Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with senior leaders in Material Planning, Finance, Trade & Customs, and Logistics Operations.
- Team Leadership: Educate cross functional teams, and analysts on category strategy, negotiation, and stakeholder management. Serve as a category SME and escalation point for the team.
- Market & Industry Expertise: Track LTL market capacity, fuel trends, and milkrun best practices across OEM peers to keep Tesla's network ahead of the market.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Industrial Engineering, or other engineering fields.
- 6-10+ years in transportation sourcing and carrier management, including demonstrated leadership of LTL category strategy and/or inbound milkrun network design at an OEM, automotive, or large-scale manufacturing company. Track record of independently owning multi-million-dollar categories end-to-end.
- Proven ability to influence Director/VP stakeholders, lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority, and mentor junior team members. Experience presenting to executive leadership.
- Expert-level understanding of LTL pricing mechanics (base rates, FAK, discounts, accessorials, fuel).
- Deep expertise in milkrun route design: stop sequencing, time windows, trailer cube/weight optimization, frequency tuning.
- Established executive-level relationships across the LTL carrier base (national, regional, and cross-border specialists).
- Advanced proficiency with TMS data, rating engines, and analytics tools (Excel/SQL/Power BI or equivalent). Hands-on experience with optimization tools and knowledge of industry tools strongly preferred.
- Executive-level negotiation, analytical, and communication skills. Proven ability to operate autonomously, set priorities, and drive results in ambiguous, high-pressure environments.
- Deep command of purchasing processes - SOPs, RFIs/RFPs/RFQs, POs, MSAs, supplier scorecards, and contract governance.
