Job Description
About Bolt Bolt is shaping a future where cities are built for people, not cars. What started as an ambitious project of a 19-year-old in 2013 has grown into a global mobility platform used by more than 200 million customers and 4.5 million driver and courier partners across 50 countries.
From ride-hailing and food delivery to scooters, e-bikes, and car-sharing, Bolt helps people move through cities every day. Small, autonomous teams drive this work, combining the speed and ownership of a startup with the scale of a global technology company backed by more than €1bn in funding.
And we're just getting started.
Why join Bolt?
- Build the future of mobility and help transform how people live and move in cities.
- Tackle challenges at scale that span technology, operations, regulation, and growth.
- Take real ownership early. Small, lean teams mean your decisions matter from day one, and you'll learn fast alongside some of the best people in the industry.
- Join one of Europe's leading technology companies, backed by world-class investors including Sequoia.
About The Role You'll join the Micromobility engineering group alongside software engineers, product managers, and data scientists, and work across the ML that runs the business.
You'll work across three lines, each with systems already in production and room for new work:
- Operations - the models that decide where vehicles are deployed and rebalanced and when their batteries get swapped;
- Scale - work involving image and sensor data meant to keep our riders safe and our business compliant with city regulations
- Pricing - deciding what’s the optimal way to price our product
You'll take ownership of specific models and projects within this portfolio, with the flexibility to contribute across domains as priorities evolve.
Working with product and engineering, you'll turn ambiguous business problems into production solutions, from defining success and evaluating models offline to testing their impact through online experiments. Your ownership will continue after launch, measuring and improving model performance and business outcomes.
Main Tasks And Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the ML systems you work on, from notebook prototype to deployed, monitored, retrained service: keep the mature ones healthy and build the new ones.
- Design, train, and deploy models across tabular, image, video and sensor data, choosing the right tool for each.
- Turn modelling output into operational and pricing rules with clear economics, and validate them through experiments and quasi-experimental analysis before they reach the fleet or the customer.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Managers, Operations, and the ML Platform team to productionise and monitor ML solutions.
- Write the documentation, runbooks and diagnostics that let others operate and extend your systems.
About You
- Proven hands-on experience in building ML systems from end to end, including testing, monitoring, scaling, and measuring the impact; 5+ years in applied data science or ML engineering, ideally in a product setting.
- Strong engineering fundamentals: mastery of Python and SQL/PySpark, clean code practices, and experience with modern ML tooling and cloud infrastructure (AWS, SageMaker, Airflow, Docker, MLflow).
- Production experience with a deep learning framework (PyTorch, TensorFlow or JAX)
- Experience with experimentation design and causal inference, and the judgement to know when a significant result is not yet a final decision.
- Strong product sense and proactive ownership, with the ability to turn ambiguous problems into measurable solutions and drive them from discovery to production impact.
- Adaptable and comfortable wearing several hats in a small team: modelling, pipeline engineering, stakeholder work and mature system maintenance.
Why you'll love it here
- Play a direct role in shaping the future of mobility.
- Make an impact on millions of customers and partners across 850+ cities in 50+ countries.
- Work in fast-moving, autonomous teams with talented and supportive colleagues.
- Accelerate your professional growth with unique career opportunities.
- Receive a rewarding salary and stock option package that lets you focus on doing your best work.
- Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working, with a minimum of (insert X) days in the office each week to foster strong connections and teamwork.
- Take care of your physical and mental health with our wellness perks.
Some perks may differ depending on your location and role.
