Job Description
Who you are
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience in tax, finance or a related analytical field
- Experience in writing SQL queries and creating business intelligence reports using Tableau, Power BI
- Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights
- Experience with Excel
- Experience with SQL
- Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders
- Experience in identifying, leading, and executing opportunities to improve, automate, standardize or simplify finance or business tools and processes, or experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (examples: SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and other financial systems (examples: Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
What the job involves
- Global Tax Data (GTD) provides data management services and supports program and product initiatives to improve tax data integrity across Amazon's global indirect tax compliance operations
- We ensure timely, accurate data is provided for tax compliance reporting and audit readiness
- Our teams manage tax data infrastructure, reconciliation tools, and operational reporting for compliance teams worldwide
- As a Sr. Business Analyst in GTD, you will drive data analysis, reconciliation operations, root cause investigations, and process improvements that directly support monthly tax compliance cycles
- You will work cross-functionally with tax compliance, finance technology, and accounting teams to ensure data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness
- This is a hands-on role that requires strong analytical skills, comfort with large datasets, and the ability to identify patterns, explain variances, and drive issues to resolution independently
- Perform monthly tax data reconciliation activities, investigating and resolving discrepancies between source systems, tax reporting warehouses, and general ledger
- Analyze data quality issues, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions with upstream and downstream teams
- Develop and maintain operational reports, dashboards, and metrics that provide visibility into reconciliation health and data readiness
- Own and manage SIM tickets and intake workflows, ensuring timely response and resolution for internal and external stakeholders
- Partner with compliance teams to understand reporting requirements and translate them into data specifications
- Document standard operating procedures, runbooks, and process flows for recurring operational activities
- Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, reduce cycle time, and improve data quality
- Support audit data requests by extracting, validating, and delivering data packages to auditors and tax authorities
- Participate in and contribute to Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), and operational readiness activities
