Job Description

This internship is intended for students enrolled in their penultimate/final year of education in an accredited full-time PhD degree program located in the EMEA region. Participation in the internship program requires that you are located in one of the specific country locations identified for this role, for the duration of the internship program. Interns will be required to be available to work full-time for a minimum of 13 weeks over the Summer 2026 (starting in May, June or July) for the duration of the program. Individuals applying for this position will not be eligible for immigration sponsorship.

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field in the EMEA region, and in your penultimate/final year of education.
  • Experience in one or more Research areas: Natural Language Understanding/Processing, Computer Vision, LLMs, Algorithmic Foundations of Optimization, Data Mining, Machine Intelligence, AI/ML Algorithms, Deep Learning or Image Processing, multimodal, multilingual and reinforcement learning.
  • Experience and profiency in one or more general purpose programming languages: Java, C++, Python, or Go.
  • Experience with research from previous internships, full-time industry experience, personal projects, lab work, or published papers (being listed as author).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as a researcher, including internships, full-time, or at a lab.
  • Experience contributing to research communities or efforts, including publishing papers in conferences or journals.
  • Ability to design and execute on research agendas.
  • Ability to complete a 13-17 week full-time internship in Switzerland, France or Germany starting in either May, June or July 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in research to develop solutions for real-world, large-scale problems.
  • Research, conceive, and develop software applications to extend and improve on Google's product offering.
  • Contribute to a wide variety of projects utilizing natural language processing, artificial intelligence, data compression, machine learning, and search technologies.
