Job Description

Our Team

The EMEA indirect tax compliance team sits within Bloomberg's Chief Accounting Office (CAO) and plays a critical role in ensuring Bloomberg meets its indirect tax reporting obligations across EMEA and APAC.

The team is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of VAT/GST returns and other indirect tax filings, delivered through a combination of in-house compliance, outsourced providers and local bookkeepers.

But the role is about much more than filing returns. Indirect tax compliance is changing rapidly as tax authorities move towards e-invoicing, real-time reporting and increasingly data-led tax administration. At the same time, technology, automation and AI are changing how compliance work can be delivered.

We are therefore looking for someone who combines strong indirect tax fundamentals with curiosity, analytical thinking and a willingness to challenge how work is done today. The role will help us build smarter, more controlled and more scalable compliance processes while supporting the creation of consistent global standards across the indirect tax team.

What's in it for you

You will report to the EMEA Indirect Tax Compliance Team Leader and take ownership of a portfolio of VAT/GST and other indirect tax compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.

You will develop strong end-to-end compliance experience, from understanding source data and preparing returns through to ensuring payments are made, controls, issue resolution and interactions with external advisors and other stakeholders.

You will also have the opportunity to help shape how indirect tax compliance is delivered at Bloomberg. This includes building and using technology-led solutions, applying AI and automation, reducing manual activity, improving data quality and sharing successful solutions across regions.

The role offers exposure to a global business, changing digital tax requirements and cross-functional work with finance, tax, technology, external advisors and local bookkeepers.

We will trust you to

  • Take end-to-end ownership for the accurate and timely preparation and submission of VAT/GST returns, statistical reports and other indirect tax compliance filings across a portfolio of jurisdictions.

  • Understand the data behind the return, including how source transactions flow through financial systems.

  • Apply trend and variance analysis to identify unusual movements, investigate exceptions and ensure issues are understood and resolved before filing.

  • Work with external advisors and local bookkeepers to ensure accurate and timely compliance, while challenging the quality, efficiency and value of the services provided.

  • Challenge manual or inefficient processes and actively identify opportunities to improve accuracy, control, speed and scalability.

  • Build, use and maintain internal reporting and compliance solutions using technologies such as Alteryx, AI, automation and other emerging tax or data tools.

  • Use AI and technology not simply to automate existing steps, but to rethink how activities can be performed more effectively, with appropriate review, documentation and controls.

  • Help develop and embed global indirect tax compliance standards, including common processes, control frameworks, templates and documentation across regions.

  • Monitor relevant VAT/GST developments and support the implementation of regulatory changes affecting Bloomberg, including e-invoicing, real-time reporting and digital tax administration requirements.

  • Research indirect tax issues and respond to queries from tax, finance and other parts of the business, escalating technical matters where appropriate.

  • Support tax authority audits, enquiries and information requests by preparing accurate, well-supported data and documentation.

  • Maintain strong compliance discipline, including filing calendars, evidence of review, process documentation and other key controls.

  • Work closely with the global indirect tax advisory team and wider finance stakeholders to ensure compliance processes respond effectively to legislative and business changes.

  • Share ideas, tools and best practice with colleagues across regions so that successful solutions can be reused and scaled globally.

Above all, we want someone who sees indirect tax compliance not as a static process, but as an area that can be continuously improved through better data, stronger controls, technology, automation, AI and global standardisation.

You need to have

  • Indirect tax compliance experience, preferably within a large multinational business or an indirect tax compliance function within a professional services firm.

  • A sound practical understanding of VAT/GST compliance and the ability to apply that knowledge across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Strong analytical skills and experience using financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel to extract, analyse and reconcile data.

  • A problem-solving mindset and the confidence to investigate differences, understand root causes and challenge existing processes.

  • An interest in technology, automation and AI, with a willingness to learn and use new tools as part of day-to-day compliance work.

  • The ability to manage a high volume of activities, prioritise effectively and consistently meet filing deadlines.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues, advisors and stakeholders across different functions and locations.

Desirable

  • Experience with Alteryx or another data preparation / automation tool.

  • Experience using AI tools to support tax, finance, data analysis or process improvement activities.

  • Exposure to e-invoicing, real-time reporting or other digital tax administration requirements.

Personal Characteristics

  • Hands-on, proactive and willing to take ownership.

  • Curious and comfortable asking, 'Why do we do it this way?'

  • Results-focused, with strong attention to accuracy and control.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving and constantly changing environment.

  • Collaborative and willing to share knowledge, ideas and solutions across the team.

  • Open to experimentation and continuous learning, particularly around technology and new ways of working.

If indicated, please note that years of experience are a guide; we will consider applications from all candidates who can demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
