Hardware Engineer 2 - Applied Sciences Group

Overview The Microsoft Applied Sciences Group incubates disruptive technologies for nextgen hardware products and works on exciting projects that shape how people interact with computers. We are seeking a Hardware Engineer 2 to design and develop embedded systems and firmware for next-generation hardware devices. This role focuses on PCB design, board bring-up, and embedded firmware development, contributing to innovative hardware prototypes and products.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded hardware and firmware features for electronic devices.
• Contributes to board bring-up, debugging, and hardware/software integration.
• Create and execute test plans to validate performance and reliability.
• Document designs, manage schedules, and collaborate across disciplines.
• Interface with manufacturing partners to ensure successful production.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND some technical engineering experience
• OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND solid technical engineering experience
• OR equivalent experience.
• Experience in hardware/embedded systems development.

Other Requirements Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in PCB design (e.g., Altium), hardware debugging, and C/C++ firmware.
• Experience with low-power design and BLE.
• Solid communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
