Job Description

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

  • Amazon Web Services is seeking an Electrical Engineer to become part of a global engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation of our rapidly expanding data center foot print
  • Join our global engineering team to design and innovate the electrical systems powering Amazon's rapidly expanding data center infrastructure
  • You'll take on multi-million dollar projects from concept through construction, working with cutting-edge equipment and collaborating across disciplines to deliver resilient, cost-effective solutions that support our customers worldwide
  • AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure

  • We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on

  • You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles

  • Data center electrical designs and collaboration with other disciplines to create a construction document set
  • Participating in site selection reviews and site planning activities
  • Critical Data Center equipment design including Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, MV Switchgear, LV Switchgear, MV:LV Transformers, Earthing. Life Safety and Fire Detection systems
  • Design and collaborate with other disciplines to create a construction document set
  • Creating of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements
  • Working with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment
  • Working with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements
  • Working with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with IEC, EU requirements and building codes
  • Reviewing and approval of equipment submittals
  • Defining project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases
  • Working with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
  • Traveling to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed
  • Being a leader within the global group as well as within internal and external teams that support Amazon’s data centers
  • Having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions
  • As an Electrical Engineer on our team, you'll focus on designing robust electrical distribution systems that keep our data centers running at world-class uptime
  • Your day might include developing design specifications, reviewing and marking up technical drawings, collaborating with cross-functional teams on equipment qualifications, conducting site inspections, responding to design inquiries, and presenting your work to stakeholders
  • You'll move fluidly between desk-based design work and on-site activities, ensuring designs translate seamlessly from concept to construction
  • You'll also have opportunities to explore new technologies and construction methods that could improve how we build and operate our facilities
  • The team consists of Electrical Engineers with Design Engineering backgrounds (typically having worked as Consulting Engineers with wide ranging experience), many ex-electricians with a practical knowledge of the systems they are designing
