Data Center Engineering Operations - 2027 Internship

Who Should Apply

This internship is for students in the final year of a Bachelor's degree or vocational training programme in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, graduating in 2027/2028.

About The Role As an intern, you will join the Infrastructure Operations team and work to ensure that the data center's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems operate at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.

The Engineering Operations Team Is Amazon's Front-line Responders For Hands-on Electrical And Mechanical Equipment Troubleshooting And Operations. You Will Work With Equipment That Supports Mission-critical Servers And Must Maintain Better Than 99.999% Uptime. This Equipment Includes, But Is Not Limited To

• Stand-by diesel generators and switchgear
• Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPSs) and Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
• Air Handling Units (AHUs), chillers, and cooling towers
• Chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
• Building automation systems
• Fire and life safety equipment

You will also help drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities — your fresh perspective matters.

What You Will Do

• Maintain mechanical and electrical equipment
• Assist with root cause analysis of equipment failures
• Troubleshoot facility and rack-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
• Ensure all safety procedures are followed while performing work
• Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment
• Use internal Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to manage building workflows and perform rack installations
• Coordinate body movements when using tools or equipment, and reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures

Physical Requirements

This Role Involves Physical Activity, Including

• Walking job sites on uneven terrain, including extended site rounds that may involve long distances
• Using hands to manipulate small wires and objects
• Pushing or pulling heavy objects into position
• Working in a noisy environment

Internship Structure

Internship start dates are in January or February 2027, depending on school terms. This is a paid, full-time internship lasting 20 consecutive weeks. This position requires the intern to report to work on site daily.

This role operates on a 12-hour rotating shift pattern (rotating three to four day work weeks), which may include both day and night shifts. Work support could include occasional travel to more than one site location (less than 25% of the time).

Please note that full-time Engineering Operations Technician roles also operate on a rotating shift pattern, which may include days, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Candidates should be willing and able to commit to shift work during the internship and upon transitioning to a full-time position.

Basic Qualifications

• In the last year of study, graduating in 2027
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment, with strong time management skills
• Willingness to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including potential night shifts

Preferred Qualifications

• Driving license and access to own vehicle
• Knowledge of mechanical systems (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems, controls)
