Job Description
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
- Solid experience in accounting and financial close processes within a complex international environment
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and/or IFRS and financial reporting requirements
- Demonstrated experience with balance sheet reconciliations, journal entry reviews, and month-end close execution
- Proven experience working within a structured financial control environment, including control execution, review, and remediation of identified deficiencies
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across Accounting, FP&A, Business, and Audit teams
- Ability to translate operational business activities into sound accounting treatment and controlled financial reporting outcomes
- Continuous improvement mindset with experience driving process optimization and standardization
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of ownership and accountability
- Experience in Marketing expense accounting, including Performance and Brand marketing
- Experience coordinating internal and external audits in a complex accounting environment
- Exposure to automation and tooling initiatives, including BlackLine or similar reconciliation platforms
- Experience improving commentary, reporting, or control processes through automation or AI-enabled solutions
- Experience working in a fast-paced global technology, e-commerce, or travel environment
What the job involves
- The Revenue, Marketing and Treasury Accounting team plays a critical role in safeguarding the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of Booking.com’s financial records across several high-impact accounting streams. The team operates at the intersection of accounting, business partnership, controls, and process improvement, helping ensure that complex end-to-end processes are translated into robust financial reporting outcomes
- This role is intended to provide dedicated ownership over Marketing expense accounting while enabling continued progress on key initiatives
- The Controller will oversee the accounting of Marketing expenses, with a primary focus on ensuring timely, accurate, and well-controlled month-end close execution across Performance and Brand marketing. The role will own and review key close deliverables including journal entries, reconciliations, and in-scope and non-SOX control activities, while partnering closely with Business, FP&A, and audit stakeholders
- Within the Revenue, Marketing and Treasury Accounting team of Corporate Accounting, this role is critical to maintaining strong financial stewardship, strengthening the control environment, and driving operational improvements in an area with significant financial exposure and cross-functional complexity
- Own and coordinate the month-end close activities related to Marketing expense, covering both Performance and Brand marketing
- Review journal entries to ensure expenses are recorded accurately, completely, and in the correct reporting period
- Review account reconciliations related to Marketing expense balances, ensuring timely resolution of open items and reconciling differences
- Perform and oversee in-scope SOX and non-SOX control activities within the Marketing expense area
- Execute full SOX operational reviews to assess compliance of in-scope controls and support deficiency-free audits
- Identify, track, and remediate open control deficiencies related to Marketing expense processes
- Coordinate internal and external audit requests for the Marketing expense area, ensuring timely, clear, and complete responses
- Act as the key accounting representative between Business stakeholders and FP&A for Marketing expenses, helping streamline processes and ensure compliance with US GAAP
- Provide clear accounting guidance and challenge where needed to improve the quality, consistency, and control of end-to-end expense recognition
- Drive process improvements across the Marketing accounting area, with a focus on strengthening scalability, standardization, and control effectiveness
- Ensure initiatives are delivered on time and in line with expectations, including:
- Optimization of Brand marketing accruals
- Discovery and implementation support for BlackLine auto-reconciliations
- Performance marketing flux commentary AI automation
- Ad hoc projects driven by newly identified priorities
- Support a sustainable operating model by helping establish clearer ownership, stronger oversight, and improved execution across the Marketing accounting stream
