The Firmwide Sustainability team within the Global Sustainability Office is seeking a Climate Metrics, Reporting & Controls Lead responsible for overseeing financed emissions and other climate metrics reporting, including accurate and consistent public disclosures, effective data governance and controls, assurance readiness, and implementation of regulatory requirements. The role combines technical expertise, sound judgment, and hands-on execution, working across the Global Sustainability Office (GSO), Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Technology, Data, Business teams, and external partners to deliver reliable, decision-useful, and audit-ready climate information.

The successful candidate will play a leading role in the annual development, assurance, and reporting cycle, translate evolving requirements into documented methodologies and processes, and develop recommendations for senior management and governance forums across relevant Morgan Stanley legal entities. The individual will also serve as a key contributor to cross-functional workstreams that strengthen the Firm's climate reporting operating model.

Key Responsibilities:

Climate Metrics Reporting

  • Oversee the production of enterprise and legal-entity sustainability and climate-specific disclosures, including annual voluntary and regulatory reporting.
  • Drive enhancements to the operating model and delivery roadmap for calculating financed emissions and other climate-related metrics across the Firm.
  • Apply and maintain consistent and credible Scope 3 Category 15 greenhouse gas accounting approaches across absolute financed emissions, sector-specific portfolio intensity metrics, and other applicable climate metrics.
  • Ensure consistent disclosure language, reporting positions, and levels of detail across entities and markets.
  • Produce accurate, timely, and decision-useful reporting for senior management, governance committees, regulators, auditors, and other relevant stakeholders.

Data Governance, Controls, and Process Improvement

  • Manage the annual internal and external assurance process, including engagement with external auditors, variance analysis, control walkthroughs, issue remediation, attestations, and escalation of material issues.
  • Integrate, transform, and analyze complex data from internal systems and third-party providers to support accurate, repeatable, and well-controlled climate metrics calculation and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain methodologies, documentation, policies, procedures, and control evidence aligned with reporting requirements, data sources, assumptions, and governance expectations.
  • Partner with GSO Digital Products and Technology teams to define business requirements and identify and support enhancements to systems and tools used for climate metrics measurement and reporting.

Strategic Partnership and Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on financed emissions accounting, sustainability data, reporting methodologies, and controls, providing practical guidance to senior management and governance forums.
  • Engage with external standard-setting bodies, trade associations, and/or policymakers as needed to help shape relevant market standards and practices.
  • Guide the implementation of evolving climate reporting requirements, including impact assessments, delivery coordination, and integration into the reporting and control framework.
  • Coordinate engagement with assurance providers, data vendors, and other relevant external partners, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, data science, statistics, computer science, engineering, finance, accounting, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience within or working closely with the global financial services sector, in sustainability- or climate-transition-related teams and/or relevant finance, consulting, accounting, risk, control, or regulatory implementation roles.
  • Familiarity with financed emissions accounting, greenhouse gas inventories, climate data, sustainability reporting, or ESG regulatory disclosures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience working with complex methodologies and large or disparate datasets.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate reporting considerations and material issues clearly to senior and technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex work through collaborative teams across different geographies.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and climate reporting frameworks and requirements, such as the GHG Protocol, PCAF, ISSB, CSRD, CDP, and TCFD-aligned disclosures, is a plus.
  • Experience leading or supporting engagements with auditors, assurance providers, regulators, or governance bodies is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with data analysis or visualization tools and programming languages such as SQL, Python, Power BI, Alteryx, or comparable solutions is a plus.
