Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to lead the architecture, integration strategy and technical roadmap across our People Technology landscape. This role will be responsible for designing scalable, secure and API-first solutions centred around Workday while enabling seamless integration with enterprise platforms through MuleSoft and modern integration patterns.

The successful candidate will combine deep hands-on Workday expertise with strong integration architecture capabilities, helping shape the future of our HR technology ecosystem. They will play a key role in enabling intelligent automation, AI-powered employee experiences and next-generation digital capabilities through Workday Extend, Workday Orchestrate, Workday AI services and enterprise integration platforms.

This role requires someone who is equally comfortable defining enterprise architecture standards, designing complex integrations and working hands-on with engineering teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

• Define and own the People Technology API strategy, promoting an API-first architecture across the HR technology landscape.
• Architect reusable APIs that simplify integration between Workday and enterprise platforms.
• Own the end-to-end solution architecture for the Workday platform across the People Technology landscape.
• Define architecture standards, design principles and technical governance for Workday implementations and enhancements.
• Lead technical solution design for complex business initiatives and transformation programmes.
• Partner with HR, Technology and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into sustainable technical solutions.
• Establish integration patterns supporting real-time, event-driven and batch-based data exchange.
• Design secure, resilient and scalable integration solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
• Develop standards for API lifecycle management, governance, versioning, monitoring and security.
• Drive the adoption of reusable integration assets and enterprise integration best practices
• Ensure solutions comply with enterprise security, privacy and compliance requirements.
• Conduct architecture reviews and technical assurance activities.
• Maintain technology roadmaps for the People Technology platform.
• Produce high-quality architecture documentation, solution designs and integration specifications.
• Influence senior stakeholders on technology direction and investment decisions.
• Collaborate with vendors, implementation partners and product teams to deliver strategic initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary delivery teams.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership across the Workday ecosystem, including solution design, development and optimisation of integrations using Workday Studio, Core Connectors, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Cloud Connect, Workday REST and SOAP APIs, Report-as-a-Service (RaaS), Calculated Fields, Business Process Framework and Workday security.
• Lead the design, development and support of complex inbound, outbound and event-driven integrations, ensuring scalable, secure and resilient solutions while establishing best practices, standards and governance across the Workday platform.
• Drive innovation by leveraging modern Workday capabilities including Workday Extend, Workday Orchestrate, Workday AI, Self-Service Agents and emerging Agentic AI capabilities, supporting AI-powered employee experiences through standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) and enterprise AI integration frameworks.
• Design, develop and govern enterprise integration solutions using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform, including API Manager, Exchange, Runtime Manager and DataWeave, applying API-led connectivity principles to deliver reusable, secure and scalable integration services.
• Lead the development of enterprise APIs and integration patterns that enable seamless connectivity between Workday and the broader People Technology ecosystem, supporting real-time, event-driven and hybrid integration architectures.
• Establish integration standards, API governance, monitoring and operational best practices while providing hands-on technical leadership and mentoring engineering teams to deliver high-quality, resilient integration solutions

Role Qualifications and Requirements

Required:

• 7+ years of experience designing and implementing Workday integrations.
• 3+ Years of experience designing and implementing Mulesoft integrations.
• Deep hands-on experience developing and architecting Workday integrations.
• Proven expertise with Workday Studio, Core Connectors, Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB), Cloud Connect, Workday REST and SOAP APIs, Report-as-a-Service (RaaS) and Workday security.
• Strong hands-on experience designing and developing integrations using MuleSoft Anypoint Platform.
• Demonstrable experience defining API strategies and implementing API-first architectures.
• Experience designing secure RESTful APIs and enterprise integration patterns.
• Strong understanding of authentication and security standards including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect and SAML.
• Experience integrating Workday with enterprise applications, cloud platforms and third-party SaaS solutions.
• Excellent understanding of integration architecture, data modelling and event-driven design patterns.
• Experience leading architecture reviews, technical governance and solution design workshops.
• Workday Pro certifications.

Preferred:

• Workday Extend development.
• Workday Orchestrate implementation.
• Experience with Workday AI capabilities and intelligent automation.
• Experience implementing Workday Self-Service Agents.
• Familiarity with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and emerging AI interoperability standards.
• Experience integrating enterprise AI platforms and AI agent frameworks into HR technology ecosystems.
• Experience with event streaming technologies.
• Exposure to Azure Integration Services or AWS integration services.
• TOGAF or equivalent architecture certification.
• MuleSoft Certified Developer or MuleSoft Certified Architect.
