Job Description
Who you are
- We are looking for experienced engineers who are enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to work effectively with a diverse team of peers; someone who will help us amplify the positive and inclusive team culture we've been building, while being excited to solve complex developer experience problems across multiple database services and getting things done
- Experience (non-internship) in professional software development
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
What the job involves
- The In-Memory and Emerging DB organization drives innovation across Amazon's managed database services, owning and evolving the management consoles that serve over 295,000 monthly active users
- Our console team spans four distinct database services – ElastiCache, MemoryDB, Timestream, and Neptune – and this role will lead console feature delivery across all four of these consoles whilst driving our expansion into the broader developer experience
- Beyond console, we are expanding our charter into the full developer experience: AI-native interfaces, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling, and ergonomic client layers that meet developers where they work — in their IDE, terminal, IaC templates, and CI/CD pipelines
- This is a unique opportunity to shape how developers interact with some of the fastest-growing database services in the industry, across every surface area from the AWS Management Console to programmatic interfaces
- Our services power a rich variety of use cases — from knowledge graphs and real-time caching to session management and time-series analytics
- You'll work across graph, in-memory, and time-series databases, giving you breadth across multiple database paradigms and distinct UX and AI challenges for each
- Our team understands and values work life balance
- Most days, our entire team is co-located in the Dublin office, but support occasional remote work if needed
- We generally keep core in-office hours from 10am to 4pm and provide flexibility for people to structure their working hours around them
- The role involves day time on-call responsibilities, typically once every 2-3 months
- We don't like to get paged in the middle of the night or on weekends; so we investigate operational gaps on a weekly basis, proactively root-cause issues and fix them for good
- Our team has a mixture of engineers from diverse backgrounds and tenures
- We are dedicated to supporting new team members through on-boarding buddies and mentorship
- We try to assign projects based on each team member's unique background and provide them opportunities to learn new skills to make them better rounded engineers
- We celebrate knowledge sharing and encourage each member to participate and learn through team wide design reviews
- Our team is intentional in building a daily work environment where mutual respect, equity and positive recognition of differences are cultivated
- We seek diverse perspectives in our team meetings and respect honest feedback to help us make effective decisions
- Lead feature delivery across four AWS database consoles, designing and implementing intuitive experiences for database management at scale
- Build responsive, accessible full-stack components — from front-end UI to back-end service integrations — that allow customers to visualize, query, and manage their databases with ease
- Drive our expansion beyond console into AI-native developer interfaces, contributing to intelligent features such as conversational UIs, generative suggestions, and context-aware tooling
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tooling and ergonomic client layers (SDKs, CLI wrappers) that meet developers in their preferred workflows — IDEs, terminals, and CI/CD pipelines
- Integrate service APIs and back-end services into seamless workflows, ensuring reliability and performance at scale across multiple database engines
- Contribute to the operational health of the consoles: monitor metrics, triage incidents during business hours, and drive sustainable fixes
- Collaborate with an agile, cross-functional team, fostering a start-up culture within a larger organization
- Guide junior engineers on design decisions, code quality, and best practices for full-stack development
- Participate in team-wide design reviews, sharing knowledge and contributing to the technical direction across all consoles and developer experience surfaces
- Champion the developer experience — advocate for usability, accessibility, and performance improvements that benefit database users worldwide, whether they interact via console, code, or AI
