Job Description
Description AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centres and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
The Global Engineering Strategy team (GES) is looking for a results-oriented, inventive senior Architect with data centre delivery experience to establish the design & permitting strategy for our new and expanding data centre developments across Europe, the Middle East & Africa (EMEA).
You will lead the campus & shell design strategy for new data centres, establishing masterplans, determining building typology and mapping out the planning & permitting process across multiple EMEA jurisdictions. You will bridge the gap between strategic intent and design execution, ensuring our projects are buildable, permittable, and optimised for the constraints of each site.
Sitting within the broader Data Centre Engineering (DCE) organisation, you will partner with a global team of Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil & Structural engineers as well as our Environmental, Sustainability, Construction, Finance & Real Estate teams on design strategy and implementation across the EMEA region.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term infrastructure strategy for data centre deployments across EMEA, ensuring alignment with stakeholders, our global standards and regional requirements.
- Lead technical evaluations of new market opportunities, including site feasibility, power availability, climate analysis, and regulatory considerations.
- Serve as the strategic interface between regional delivery teams, design engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders (construction, real estate & capacity planning etc.)
- Provide senior technical counsel to leadership on capital investment decisions, technology selection, and infrastructure roadmap prioritisation.
- Identify and mitigate risks in early-stage programs by applying engineering and architectural judgement across disciplines.
- Influence global design standards and templates by feeding back EMEA-specific lessons learned and regional best practices.
- Work with our Planning/Permitting Team partners to continuously improve our permitting and planning framework across EMEA jurisdictions, mapping regulatory pathways per region and building reusable knowledge that accelerates future site approvals.
- Continue to improve the quality of our delivery, bringing architectural rigour to how we communicate complex spatial and regulatory information to leadership and partner teams.
A day in the life
You'll engage with cross-functional teams to evaluate new regions for data centre expansion, analyse cooling solutions, and develop innovative infrastructure strategies. You'll participate in technical reviews, collaborate on design decisions, and contribute to sustainable architectural and engineering practices.
About The Team We are a collaborative group of engineers dedicated to developing sustainable data centre solutions. Our team values creativity, inclusivity, and continuous learning. We partner with multiple disciplines to deliver reliable infrastructure that supports cloud computing globally.
