Job Description
Description Amazon is looking to hire a VAT Planning Manager to focus specifically on e-invoicing, e-reporting and related transaction controls and reporting. The role will report to our Senior Manager responsible for the EMEA region, as part of the wider Global E-Compliance team.
E-invoicing and e-reporting models are proliferating around the globe and this is a great opportunity to be at the heart of this business-critical area for Amazon. We are looking to hire a talented tax manager who has been part of an E-Invoicing mandate, having advised on or delivered an e-invoice implementation previously.
The role may be based in one of Amazon’s established European offices (Barcelona, London, Warsaw). Regular travel to other locations is likely.
Key job responsibilities
Legislative Monitoring & Analysis
- Monitor, track and evaluate legislative developments such as the EU’s ViDA programme and individual country developments, working with colleagues in VAT Policy and regional Tax Planning teams.
- Analyse published law and guidance to draft comprehensive Tax Requirements Documents plus other briefing materials that clearly articulate the impact on Amazon’s business operations.
- Leverage AI and automation tools (including Amazon’s internal AI platforms and tax technology solutions) to monitor regulatory developments, analyse legislative texts, and accelerate the drafting of materials.
- Support the development and refinement of AI-driven workflows
Stakeholder Engagement & Outside Counsel
- Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders — including Tax Engine, FinOps, Operations, Finance, Legal, and business teams — to answer ongoing queries related to e-invoicing requirements and provide timely, accurate guidance throughout the implementation lifecycle.
- Liaise with partner teams to assist with their execution of requirements and ensure cross-functional coordination.
- Engage and manage relationships with external tax advisors to obtain specialist advice on complex or ambiguous legislative requirements, and validate internal interpretations
- Serve as the subject matter expert to whom internal teams and external partners can direct ongoing technical and procedural queries ensuring consistent and authoritative responses that support project delivery.
- Assist ECH Project Manager with management of e-invoicing implementation projects.
Basic Qualifications
- Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi-national corporate tax department
- Experience researching indirect tax issues including taxability of products and services.
- Knowledge of knowledge of VAT in EU/UK
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization
- Demonstrated experience working on previous e-invoicing projects or tax technology work such as tax engines, with a strong understanding of process and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a go-to subject matter expert, fielding ongoing queries from internal stakeholders (Tax Engine, FinOps, Operations, Finance, Legal) and external partners, and providing timely, authoritative guidance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree, or professional tax, accounting or legal qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant (CA), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) or similar)
- Can use AI for legal research, contract analysis, or document review
- Experience managing competing priorities across a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience communicating with customers, technical, regulatory, business teams, and management to collect requirements, describe product features, and technical designs
- Experience building and cultivating relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Experience in a fast paced, dynamic organization
