Design Project Engineer

Who you are

• Knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems design
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Professional Engineer License
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production

What the job involves

• As an Amazon Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers, that remediate issues, upgrade our existing infrastructure or add new services
• As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will be leading projects to fit out our data centers to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale
• You will be the 'go to' engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation
• Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability
• Perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region
• Interface with internal and external data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions
• Act as technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects
• Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover

• Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects
• Possess strong engineering judgement and are able to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty
• Are detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes
• Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants
• Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
• Manage design and as built drawings and documents
• Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
• Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close
• Our Design Engineers drive data center infrastructure projects with strong engineering judgment, attention to detail, and hands-on field experience
• They manage projects and consultants, build cross-functional relationships, oversee design documentation, and prioritize initiatives that maximize impact on safety, capacity, and availability
