This position is a hybrid in-office role that works out of our London location (Monday-Thursday will be working in office and Friday is work from home). This is not a virtual / remote position About The Role Wayfair is one of the world’s largest destinations for the home, reinventing how people shop for their spaces through a combination of technology, merchandising, brand-building and creative problem-solving. The Creative team plays a central role in that ambition, shaping how customers experience Wayfair across every touchpoint — from brand campaigns and video to performance marketing, social, CRM, site, partnerships, promotions and production.
We are looking for a Creative Director of Wayfair UK & IE. This is a senior, head-of-function role with responsibility for the creative vision, strategy, standards, workflows and day-to-day creative output across copy, design and production.
You will set the creative bar for the UK business while also being hands on with our most important creative endeavors. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, guide freelancers and partners, and work closely with marketing, merchandising, commercial, operations, insights, media, global creative teams and external agencies to deliver effective, distinctive and commercially impactful creative.
This role requires someone who can move confidently between big-picture brand thinking and granular creative leadership: shaping campaign ideas, reviewing copy and design, writing scripts, directing production, improving briefs, setting testing agendas, managing feedback loops and ensuring that every asset is strategically sharp, beautifully executed and built to perform.
A major priority will be preparing the creative function for a significant Brand Awareness push in 2027, spanning media, production, creative strategy, team planning, budget requirements, campaign development and operational readiness.
What You’ll Do
Lead creative strategy and standards
- Own the creative direction, quality bar and operating model for Wayfair UK across all customer-facing channels, including brand, performance, social, CRM, site, video, partnerships and production.
- Translate business priorities, customer insights and marketing objectives into compelling creative ideas that are distinctive, effective and commercially grounded.
- Act as the senior creative voice in the UK business, shaping briefs, guiding creative choices and ensuring work is strategically sharp, on brand and built to perform - as well as championing the integration of Ai into workflows and ideation for both efficiency and scaling of creative initiatives.
Manage and develop the creative team
- Lead a multidisciplinary team across copy, design and production, creating clear ownership, strong feedback rhythms and a high-performance creative culture.
- Run regular reviews of in-flight work, giving clear direction across concepts, copy, design, scripts, layouts, production plans and final assets.
- Partner with Creative Operations and Marketing Operations on prioritisation, sprint planning, resourcing and freelance or agency support.
Oversee concept development and execution
- Lead the development of campaign ideas, messaging frameworks, visual direction, scripts, storyboards and channel-specific creative.
- Work with stakeholders to shape strong briefs, especially for new initiatives, ensuring the team has the objectives, insights, assets and success measures needed to deliver effectively.
- Review and approve creative work from internal teams, freelancers and partners, ensuring it meets the brief, channel needs and Wayfair’s creative standards.
Lead production and art direction
- Provide hands-on creative leadership across key productions, from brief and partner selection through to shoot planning, on-set direction, post-production and final approvals.
- Set the creative direction for shoots, including room look and feel, styling, talent, product selection, shot priorities and asset usage.
- Balance creative ambition with budget, timing and operational realities, ensuring a high bar for delivery and strong cost-to-outcome judgement.
Drive creative effectiveness
- Develop the annual creative testing agenda across messaging, formats, distinctive assets, visual treatments and channel executions.
- Use research, customer feedback and performance results to improve creative work, refine feedback loops and share learnings across the business.
- Ensure creative decisions are connected to measurable outcomes, including brand awareness, engagement, conversion, speed to market, efficiency and ROI.
Partner across Wayfair and external teams
- Work closely with teams across marketing, media, merchandising, commercial, operations, partnerships and customer initiatives to ensure key priorities have the right creative support.
- Collaborate with US and global creative teams to align workflows, share learnings, scale asset use and unlock efficiencies - as well as identifying and adapting key assets when transcreation opportunities arise, driving scale while holding a high bar for British consumers.
- For larger brand or agency-led campaigns, lead the creative brief, evaluate ideas, shape concepts and build cross-functional buy-in.
What You’ll Need
- Significant creative leadership experience across both agency and client-side or in-house brand environments, with proven experience leading creative teams across concept, copy, design and production.
- A strong portfolio of brand campaigns, performance creative, social-first work, video, digital content or integrated marketing campaigns, with direct experience developing ideas from brief through to final delivery, including concepting, scriptwriting, art direction, production oversight, post-production and final approvals. Experience and knowledge driving Ai adoption and integration is also a plus.
- Experience leading high-volume creative workflows, ideally in retail, ecommerce, home, lifestyle, consumer brand, agency, media or performance-led environments, with a strong understanding of channel-specific creative requirements across paid social, organic social, video, CRM, site, app, display, partnerships, promotions, brand campaigns and content. Experience within a multinational is a plus.
- Commercial fluency: able to connect creative choices to business goals, customer behaviour, brand awareness, conversion, efficiency and ROI, with strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to influence senior leaders, challenge briefs, present creative rationale and bring cross-functional partners along.
- Comfort working at pace in a complex, fast-moving business with multiple stakeholders, shifting priorities and high creative volume, with a test-and-learn mindset, with experience using insights, research or performance data to improve creative output.
Success in This Role Will Be Measured By
- The quality, consistency and distinctiveness of Wayfair UK’s creative output across all channels.
- Improvement in creative effectiveness, including asset performance, testing velocity, learning adoption, conversion impact, engagement and brand metrics.
- Successful delivery of creative campaigns and productions on brief, on time and with strong cost-to-outcome judgement.
- Stakeholder confidence in the Creative function as a strategic partner, not just an executional service.
- Team health, development and retention across production, copy and design.
- Effective use of internal, global, freelance and agency resources to scale output without diluting quality.
The Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior creative operator: strategic enough to define the direction of a function, hands-on enough to improve a script, challenge a layout, direct a shoot or sharpen a campaign idea in the moment.
They will be commercially minded, creatively ambitious and highly collaborative. They will know how to protect the quality of the work while navigating the realities of a fast-moving retail business. They will be comfortable with data, but not led by data at the expense of instinct, taste or brand-building. They will be able to build trust with senior stakeholders, create clarity for their team, and turn ambiguous business needs into creative work that customers notice, understand and act on.
This person should bring high standards without ego, pace without chaos, and creative ambition grounded in business impact.
